This is my first, of hopefully many, 'The Engaged Wedding Planner' blog segments. This is where I'm going to take you on a journey of my own wedding planning process. I have been in the wedding industry for about 5 years now and have worked over 4 dozen weddings. This has been the challenge for me - I've seen TOO MUCH! It doesn't help that Pinterest gives me a billion ideas a day of other things I can do! I'm sure many of you are on same boat.
Alex engaged to me in October of 2014 - so I have had time to plan! I am getting married on Saturday, May 21, 2016! Yes. I have been engaged for 14 months and I still have 5 months to go. Now, I always assumed that I wanted at least an 18 month engagement so I had ample time to plan. But it has been way too long. I'm over it. I just want to be married already!! BUT, I do have to say that I've been able to take my time to plan and actually save a good chunk of change. For example, we were able to shop the sales at Nordstrom for attire, Safeway's 30% off sales for wine, and Black Friday for all bridesmaid/parent gifts. While annoying at this point, the longer engagement has been beneficial.
Other than the decision to have a long engagement, I have also decided on several other things:
The decision to hire most of these vendors was incredibly simple because I have worked with them several times and trust them to do an amazing job. If any of you are looking for vendors in the grater Portland area- I highly recommend them!
For my wedding I wanted the look and feel to be similar to a secret garden (it helps that I'm getting married in a garden). I wanted it elegant, classy, and yet simple. I'm going with very muted pastels, metallic touches and big floral blooms. I will go into more detail of how I actually came to this theme in detail in upcoming blogs (because it has evolved in the past 14 months).
Stay tuned for some upcoming blogs about- deciding the logistics, picking a theme, and what to consider when picking your venue & theme.
